A Beaumont man has been arrested for a murder that occurred in July. 31-year old Lawrence
McCartney was arrested yesterday following his indictment by a Jefferson County grand
jury on Wednesday. He is charged with the July 12th shooting death of 58-year old Arthur
Crooks in the 4300 block of Flamingo. McCartney says he feared for his life and shot
Crooks, who was driving recklessly and threatening people. McCartney is being held on a
$250,000 bond.
