A Port Arthur man has been indicted for aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a peace
officer, and felony escape. On November 30th, 30-year old Lee Smith is accused of firing
several shots on Proctor Street. One of the shots struck a woman in the leg. After struggling
with officers, Smith was taken into custody. Once at the jail, he broke free and ran onto the
highway in front of the jail while handcuffed. He was quickly apprehended following his
escape.
