A Beaumont man appeared in a Beaumont federal courtroom yesterday charged in connection
the shooting of his 24-year old pregnant girlfriend and 1-year old son. They both were shot
last week at a home in the 8700 block of Newfield Lane in Beaumont. They were shot as
individuals attempted to break into the home in connection with drug trafficking activities. A
search of the home revealed cocaine, evidence of drug distribution, and several firearms. 25-year
old James Anthony Madrid is charged with possession with intent to distribute and using a
firearm during a drug trafficking crime. If convicted, Madrid faces up to life in prison.
