In Lake Charles, authorities are looking for a woman that abandoned a baby near a
hospital. A woman was getting into her car yesterday at Lake Charles Memorial
Hospital-Gauthier Campus when she heard the baby crying. It is believed the baby
girl had been there about 15 minutes. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking
anyone with information to contact them. The woman is facing a charge of child
abandonment. The abandonment does not comply with the state’s Safe Haven Law,
which allows newborns less than 60 days old to be left with an employee of a hospital,
fire department, or police department.
