Texas Man Shot His Son, Had 'Father-Son' Chat Before Stabbing Him: Cops

A Texas man has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot and then stabbed his 27-year-old son to death. Police say that 68-year-old Sherman Shirley Fricks was waiting for his son, Sherman Palmer Fricks Jr., to return home from picking up fast food for lunch, and opened fire when he came through the front door.

Fricks emptied the magazine of his .380 pistol and then went over to his dying son and had a 'father-son' chat. After about 20 minutes, Fricks Jr. was still alive, so his father stabbed him multiple times with a large kitchen knife.

Paramedics arrived and began to perform CPR. Fricks Jr. was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said that the two had a strained relationship and Fricks had called police on his son previously.

"(Fricks) stated that he had called law enforcement on (his son) in the past, but they were never able to fix it," a prosecutor said. "So today, he decided to fix it."

Fricks broke down in tears in court when a judge ordered him held on a $60,000 bond on first-degree felony murder charges. He posted bail and was released. He faces life in prison if he is convicted.
