Earlier this morning, the Hardin County Sheriff's Office received a call from the family of a Sour Lake man. The family asked for assistance from the Mental Health Division. At approximately 10:45 a.m., a deputy and a mental health case worker arrived at a residence in the30,000 block of Old Sour Lake Road, west of Sour Lake. Authorities were communicating with the 38 year old male when he emerged from his residence and shot the deputy with a cross bow. The deputy was struck above the left eye. He returned fire to protect himself and others on the scene, striking the suspect. The Deputy is conscious and alert and has been transported to the hospital for treatment. The suspect was conscious at the scene and has been flown via helicopter to a Beaumont hospital. The Texas Rangers have been contacted to lead the investigation and are currently on the scene.
