The Tyler County Sheriff’s Office reports a 43-year old man was shot and killed yesterday near
Spurger. Deputies arrived on the scene yesterday afternoon off of County Road 4375 and found
43-year old Jeremy Smith, of Spurger, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. The suspect, 83-
year old Wilmer Taylor of Spurger, was arrested and transported to the Tyler County Jail. The
two men were neighbors and reportedly were arguing over property. The investigation continues.
