The Texas State Comptroller’s Office is hosting its annual “Back to School” sales tax
holiday this weekend. The law exempts sales tax on qualified items such as clothing,
footwear, school supplies, and backpacks prices up to $100. This year shoppers are
expected to save an estimated $102.2 million in state and local sales tax. The “Back to
School” sales tax weekend has been an annual event since 1999. It takes place today
through Sunday.
