Testimony is underway at the Beaumont federal courthouse in the trial of a Beaumont man
charged with using an explosive device to damage property, possession of an unregistered
destructive device, and mailing a threatening communication. Jonathan Torres is accused of
setting off an explosive device at St. Stephens Episcopal on Delaware Street in May of last
year. He is accused of placing an explosive device at the Starbucks of Dowlen Road two weeks
earlier. That device did not explode. Torres faces up to 20 years in federal prison if he is
convicted.
