VIDOR ISD Releases Statement

In an effort to better explain the recent threat, Vidor ISD wants to share the following informational items so that you can make the best decision with regard to your student’s attendance on Thursday, January 30.

·The morning of January 28, writing was found in a girls’ restroom of Vidor High School that stated “I’m shooting up the school 1-30-20! Hope you die.” The writing was in pencil and appeared to be hastily written.

·

·The high school administration and Vidor ISD police began investigating the matter by reviewing footage and questioning students. At this time, the culprit has not been identified. We will continue to search out the person who wrote this information and address the matter seriously.

·

Vidor ISD takes all situations of this nature seriously and in an abundance of caution wants parents to know their choices. At this time, we will have school at all campuses. It is likely that this is an attempt by a single student to disrupt learning for one day or a “copycat” based on situations at neighboring school districts earlier this week in which school was canceled.

Vidor ISD has armed police officers employed by the district that will be present that day as they are every day. We will take extra precautions on Thursday, January 30 to ensure that everyone feels secure.

Any absences will be excused and will not affect school exemptions because we respect the individual wishes of every parent in Vidor ISD. For those who feel secure with the measures taken, the doors of all campuses will be open for students.
