Monday: COVID-19 Update

+The Beaumont Health Department has received confirmation of the city’s third positive case of COVID-19. All three of those that have tested positive are quarantined at home and are cooperating with the direction of the health department.

+The Office of Emergency Management in Orange County has confirmed the county’s first positive case of Coronavirus. This person is quarantined at home for at least 14 days. The health department is working to identify close contacts of this person.

+A 50-year old Hardin County man is the county’s first reported case of COVID-19. It was reported by the county judge’s office on Saturday. The victim, who is self-quarantined at home is an offshore worker.

+Liberty and Chambers County have each reported one positive case.

+The COVID-19 Hotline for Jefferson, Orange, Hardin, Jasper, and Newton counties remains in operation. Those wishing to be tested must call the number first to be interviewed by a nurse. The number to call is 409-550-2536.

+The Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce will be closed this week, March 23rd-29th. Chamber workers will be working remotely to help facilitate information from elected officials throughout the area to help update information,

+Beginning today, Lamar University is moving all courses to either online or instructional method. The campus will remain open and provide scheduled computer labs and takeout meals for students. For additional information, go to lamar.edu/coronavirus

+Governor Greg Abbott has signed a proclamation to postpone the primary runoff election in Texas. The runoff, scheduled Tuesday May 26th, will now be held on Tuesday July 14th.
