The beaches of Galveston are off limits for the next week in an effort to slow the spread of the
coronavirus. The city issued two executive orders on Sunday afternoon, closing all public
beaches and prohibiting motor vehicle traffic on the beaches west of where the Seawall ends.
The orders will be in effect until April 5th. Galveston police and the Galveston Island Beach
Patrol spent Sunday afternoon telling everybody to clear the beach. Violation of either order will
be punishable as a misdemeanor.
