BISD Extends Closure Through May 1st

Given the rapidly evolving situation with COVID-19, Beaumont ISD will extend the suspension of normal district operations through Friday, May 1, 2020 to support the nationwide effort to slow the spread of the novel infection and the recent update on the need to extend social distancing practices.

Our health officials report that the virus continues to spread across the state and expect an increase in confirmed cases in Jefferson County. Suspending operations for the month of April will allow us to coordinate with local health officials and determine the success of social distancing in containing the spread, whether the virus is continuing to have community spread or whether it has been contained.

We are coordinating with other school districts in the county and will use the week of April 27 to make any decisions on whether there is a need to extend the suspension further. While currently no decisions have been made, the district wants our community to be as prepared as possible for additional closure announcements. To provide a sense of possible impact in order to help you prepare: If there is a need to continue the suspension at that time, it could likely be for at least three more weeks beyond May 4.

As a result, we will continue student learning via the Flexible Education Program through May 1.
