STARR Waved In Texas

Gov. Greg Abbott is waiving the grade-promotion requirement of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness test for students in the fifth and eighth grades. The governor announced the waiver on Monday for the upcoming school year. The state waived the STAAR test in the previous school year because of school closures resulting from the pandemic. Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath stated last month that the test would resume in the year ahead. The test is used to evaluate both students and teachers.
