Liberty County Jail personnel are credited with preventing a jailbreak by three inmates early
Thursday morning. The inmates somehow got out of their cells and into the enclosed perimeter
yard before jail personnel caught them at about 3 a.m. The Liberty County Sheriff's Office says
the inmates took a mattress from a cell and planned to use it to help them climb over the fence.
Investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division are looking into the escape attempt.
