State officials in Louisiana are warning residents of the Westlake, Moss Bluff, and Sulphur areas
to take precautions because of a chemical plant fire. The Louisiana State Police Department is
asking those living near the Biolab chlorine manufacturing plant to close their doors and
windows, shut off air-conditioners, and shelter in place. The plant caught fire during Hurricane
Laura and released dangerous chlorine gas into the air that was mostly swept away by storm
winds. Officials say the chemicals are still in the atmosphere and could make air quality harmful
to those with respiratory issues.
