State Representative Dade Phelan and two others escaped injury yesterday morning when the
private jet they were on skidded off a wet runway in Lufkin. It appears the brakes mayhave
failed causing the jet to cross a road, break through a fence, and come to stop in a field. A staff
member and the pilot were also on the plane. Phelan is expected to become the next Texas
Speaker of the House.
