The city of Beaumont has released a statement concerning transit workers. The bus drivers are
employed by First Transit. The drivers are represented by a union who is currently negotiating a
new contract with First Transit. Once a contract is approved, it would then need approval by the
city, because the city pays for approximately 40%-50% of the operating costs each year. The
overall transit system is paid for by the city, federal government, state of Texas, and the riders
through farebox revenue.
