Texas National Guard Soldier Goes Missing Trying To Rescue Migrants

A Texas National Guard soldier has gone missing trying to rescue migrants in the Rio Grande. It happened near the town of Eagle Pass, which has been the epicenter for this surge in migration. There had been earlier reports claiming the guard member had drowned, but now the guard says he is missing and they are searching for him.

The following was a release from the Texas National Guard:

A Texas Army National Guard Soldier assigned to Operation Lone Star has gone missing along the river during a mission related incident, Friday April 22, 2022 in Eagle Pass, Texas. The Soldier has not been found. We are aware of reports of a fatality, although those reports are inaccurate. The Texas Military Department, Texas DPS and Border Patrol are working rapidly to find the Soldier. More details will be released as they become available.

It's unclear what happened to the migrants he was trying to rescue.
