Groves woman is charged with Animal Cruelty

A Groves woman is charged with Animal Cruelty of a Non-Livestock Animal after investigators say a five-month-old pit bull mix died from heat exhaustion July 13. He was left in a cage with no water outside a home on Taft Avenue in Groves. Forty-two-year-old Michelle Marie Bradford had her bond set at 25-thousand dollars by Justice of the Peace Ben Collins, and is required to wear a GPS ankle monitor. If convicted, she could face 2 to 10 years in prison and a fine up to 10 thousand dollars. The heat index on the day the dog died was around 110 degrees. Bradford told investigators she forgot the puppy was outside.
