Update: Officer Involved Shooting In Port Neches

At approximately 8:07pm 10/5/2022, Port Neches Police officers responded to a “shots fired” call in the vicinity of Lloyds Trailer Park, 350 Twin City Highway, Port Neches. The caller heard at least 2 shots and a woman screaming. Upon the first officers arrival, he observed a 53 yoa male shooting victim laying in the grass. The officer exited his vehicle to render aid to the victim when the 56yoa male suspect exited a trailer and fired one round at the officer. The officer took cover as backup officers were arriving. They then used a ballistic shield to attempt to extract the male shooting victim to safety. The officers were able to reach the victim and, on their way back to a position of safety, the suspect emerged from the door of a trailer and pointed his handgun at the rescuing officers. A third officer, providing cover for the rescuing officers, was forced to use deadly force on the suspect to prevent the suspect from shooting the officers and the victim. The officers then approached the trailer to render assistance to the suspect and discovered that he was deceased. They then discovered a 29yoa female deceased in the trailer from a gunshot wound. The officers also discovered a 13yoa female witness as she exited the trailer. The Texas Rangers were called to the scene to conduct the officer-involved shooting investigation. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s office crime scene unit responded to process the crime scene and collect evidence. Judge Mark Derouen conducted the inquest on the two deceased subjects at the scene. The officer directly involved in the shooting was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. This is standard protocol when an officer discharges their weapon in the line of duty. The male victim was last to be reported in stable condition after surgery for the gunshot wound.
