A Lumberton police officer was involved in a deadly shooting Sunday. The officer
responded to a call in the 300 block of Church Loop, off of South Main, at which
time a 62-year old man approached him with a machete. The officer initially used a
taser and the suspect kept approaching him. The officer was forced to shoot him. The
62-year old was pronounced dead at the scene. The Texas Rangers are heading up the
investigation. The officer is on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
