Two additional attempted capital murder charges have been filed against a woman in Newton
County. Betty Jean Richards was arraigned yesterday on three counts for Saturday’s shooting
of Newton Chief of Police Will Jackson. Jackson was shot while serving a forced evacuation in
Call. L.C. Gosey is charged with one count of attempted capital murder. Richards’ bonds total
$3 mllion. Gosey is being held on a $1 million bond. Jackson, who was wearing a bullet proof
vest, was treated at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
