A man is dead following a shootout with Jefferson County deputies. Captain Crystal Holmes
says deputies attempted to stop a motorcycle going the wrong way on Highway 90 in China
around 1:00 this morning. The motorcyclist stopped, pulled a gun and fired at the deputies.
Deputies returned fire. The man died at the scene. At this time it is unclear whether he died from
shots fired from the deputies or a self inflicted gunshot wound.
