Man Pleads Guilty Prior To Opening Statements

A Port Arthur man set to go on trial for aggravated assault entered a guilty plea yesterday as opening

statements were set to begin at the Jefferson County Courthouse. 57-year old John Fitzgerald Rice

shot Shaquita Hill in the face in March of last year outside a Port Arthur apartment complex. With

the plea, he faces up to 12 years in prison. He will be sentenced later this year. If he would have been

convicted, he could have faced up to 20 years.
