Torres Conviction Upheld

The 9th Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of Luis Torres. He is serving a 20-year sentence for

intoxication manslaughter that killed Beaumont police officer Sheena Yarbourgh-Powell in August of

2020. Torres, whose blood alcohol content was more than two times the legal limit, was driving the

wrong way on Cardinal Drive, near MLK, when he hit a Beaumont police unit head-on killing Officer

Yarbough-Powell and injuring Officer Gabriel Fells.
