(Baton Rouge, LA) -- Attorney General Jeff Landry is the winner of Saturday's election for governor of Louisiana.Landry is a Republican backed by former President Donald Trump. He replaces term-limited Gov. John Bel Edwards, who was the last Democratic governor in the Deep South. Landry avoided a runoff by winning 52-percent of the vote. Democrat Shawn Wilson received 26-percent, and every other candidate on the crowded ballot was in single digits. As state attorney general, Landry championed conservative positions.
