The state Legislature is in a fourth special session, and the House and Senate are proposing bills for school choice and school funding. Gov. Greg Abbott is calling on lawmakers to pass laws addressing the issues. School choice proposals would pay for private school tuition with state money. Democrats and rural House Republicans oppose the measure. Abbott is threatening to support lawmakers' opponents in the primaries if they vote against his top priority. The chairs of both chambers' education committees have filed school choice and school funding bills.
