A school choice advocate is the new head of the Texas State Board of Education. Gov. Greg Abbott appointed freshman member Aaron Kinsey to lead the committee. The board sets curriculum standards, approves textbooks, and authorizes charter schools across the state. Kinsey replaces Chairman Keven Ellis, who led the board during the pandemic and amid political debates over textbooks. Kinsey is a supporter of school choice, which Abbott unsuccessfully tried to persuade the Legislature to enact into law this year.
