(Huntsville, TX)-- Convicted Texas killer Ivan Cantu faces execution Wednesday for the murder of his cousin and his cousin's fiancée. He was sentenced for the Dallas murders that took place in November 2000. Recent post-trial evidence regarding his claim of innocence has generated wide support for a new trial. That includes recanted testimony from a key witness and claims another witness lied on the stand. On Monday, the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles unanimously denied Cantu's clemency application. Yesterday, the state's highest criminal court as well as the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied stay requests.
