At midnight on Saturday, June 8, 2024, Beaumont Police Department officers responded to a call for assistance from Beaumont Independent School District Police Department at Fuma Dubai, located at 4438 Dowlen. BISD PD officers had reported a large altercation involving armed suspects. They had already deployed pepper spray to control the situation and reported that one suspect had attempted to seize a BISD officer’s firearm. Upon arrival, BPD officers were directed to several suspects and vehicles involved. During the attempt to detain the suspect who had tried to take the BISD Officer’s firearm, the individual resisted arrest, assaulting a BPD officer by punching and kicking him. The suspect, identified as Keadrain Corbin, a 23-year-old resident of Beaumont, was subsequently arrested on charges of attempting to disarm a police officer, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest. Additionally, BISD PD officers arrested two more individuals for Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon: Jonah Mitchell, a 26-year-old resident of Beaumont and Kito Simpson, a 18-year-old Port Arthur resident. Two firearms were confiscated, and the investigation remains ongoing. The injured BPD officer was admitted to a local hospital for treatment and released several hours later.
