The singer, author and one-time Texas gubernatorial candidate was 79-years old.Friedman and his band, The Texas Jewboys, toured with Bob Dylan and appeared on Saturday Night Live back in the 70s. He later shifted to writing detective novels and had a column in Texas Monthly.Friedman's run for governor as an independent ended in 2004 with just 12-percent of the vote.
