Hurricane Beryl Update From Greg Bostwick 07/03 6am

Beryl continues to gradually weaken with highest winds of 145 mph. Beryl is moving to the WNW at 20 mph and will pass near or just south of Jamaica this afternoon.

Further weakening can be expected as it reaches the Yucatan Peninsula Friday morning. Beryl will likely drop to tropical storm intensity Saturday before emerging into the southwestern Gulf.

A ridge of high pressure is expected to hold just enough to keep the final landfall of Beryl well to our southwest over northeastern Mexico to near Brownsville Sunday night. Conditions over the Gulf should allow Beryl to become a hurricane again with CAT1 intensity likely.

Since Beryl is a small hurricane in size, any significant rainfall should stay in deep South Texas.
