Beryl Update From Greg Bostwick 07/05 6p

Several people have asked why Beryl has been turning more toward the mid-Texas coast than earlier expected. The answer is two-fold:

1. Beryl is moving off the Yucatan further north than expected.

2. More importantly the trough of low pressure...or split...between high pressure systems is deeper than expected.

This is actually bad and good. The bad....moves the track of Beryl closer to us. The good....Beryl will keep moving after landfall which will likely keep any significant weather in our area from lasting more than 24 hours.

Many have compared Beryl to Harvey but the set up with Beryl is totally different. With Harvey a strong ridge of high pressure developed north of the hurricane from Oklahoma into the southeastern U.S. stalling Harvey and actually forcing it to move back to the upper coast where it lingered for days. This time around....a wide open gate for Beryl to move through to the north-northeast with no stall expected.
