Arrest In Child Molestation Cold Case

Lumberton police have made an arrest in a “cold case” child molestation case. Last week, the Hardin County grand jury indicted 50 year old Jeremy Ryan Smith for aggravated sexual assault of a child, a case that dates back to 2009. The victim was a six week old baby. Smith was arrested in Angleton and has been returned to Hardin County. His bond has been set at $1 million. This case was investigated over the years by Lumberton police Lt. Joey Beaux, who passed away three years ago after a battle with cancer During Smith’s arrest, officers used Lt. Breaux’s handcuffs.
