Kidnapper Pleads Guilty

A man from Orange faces up to life in prison after pleading guilty to kidnapping. This past July 15th, 79-year old Putnman Darwin Richardson kidnapped Beaumont attorney Mel Shelander, drove him to his home in Orange, held Shelander hostage demanding a $1 million ransom. Shelander was found at Richardson’s home two days later. Richardson was served 30 years of a 50 year sentence for a kidnapping conviction in 1985. He will be sentenced for this kidnapping on a later date.
