(Austin, TX) --The Texas House is seeking to outlaw social media use by minors. A House bill would prohibit Texas children from using social media, and would also require platforms to delete children's accounts at the request of a parent. The bill would require social media companies to verify that new users are 18 or older. Social media companies that fail to comply could be penalized under state law dealing with deceptive trade practices. The House passed the bill last week by a bipartisan 116-25 vote.
