Apparently sled dogs have no problem leaving a fallen musher behind. Officials at a checkpoint in the Iditarod dogsled race in Ruby, Alaska were left confused after musher Linwood Fiedler's sled and dogs pulled into the checkpoint in the middle of the night without Fiedler. Fiedler arrived on foot an hour later with no physical injuries and explained he fell asleep and fell off the sled a few miles away from the checkpoint. The dogs simply continued their path toward the checkpoint without his direction. After a rest, Fiedler was able to continue the race, which was at its halfway point.
