Universal’s The Fate of the Furious crossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office this weekend, raking in an estimated total of $1.06 billion. So far, $867.8 million hails from overseas, with $192.7 million in domestic earnings.
Fate of the Furious also won the weekend box office, bringing in $19.4 million in its third week in the theaters.
A surprise this weekend was Great India Films’ Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which outflanked The Circle in its opening weekend, with Baahubali 2 bringing in $10.1 million, versus The Circle’s $9.3 million.
The Circle, starring Tom Hanks as a villain in a big brother concept film, was a surprising bust. Emma Watson, who also stars in The Circle, pushed the film hard on social media to her 24.5 million followers last week. TBD if it will make more of a dent later on down the line.
