'HITMAN'S BODYBUARD' WINS LOWEST-GROSSING B.O. WEEKEND OF THE YEAR WITH $21M (08/21/2017)
The Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson vehicle The Hitman’s Bodyguard emerged victorious at the box office, despite getting drubbed by critics.
The film came in above expectations with $21.6 million in box office receipts.
All in, this was the lowest weekend in terms of ticket sales all year, down 27% year-over-year.
Logan Lucky, starring Channing Tatum, brought in a disappointing $8 million for its opening weekend.
In more positive B.O. news, Universal Pictures crossed the $3 billion threshold at the international box office as of Friday, making it the second time in the studio’s 105-year history that it has accomplished this feat.
Wonder Woman, with $800 million in receipts, was a big part of that victorious push.
