'50 SHADES FREED' WHIPS UP $38M OPENING (02/12/2018)
Universal is reporting a $38.6 million opener for BDSM romance Fifty Shades Freed, lower than the expected $40 million opener.
Overseas, Fifty Shades raked in $100 million over the weekend. Altogether, that makes the trilogy worth $1.09 billion. Industry observers are expecting the E.J. James adaptation to bring in a lot more this week with Valentine’s Day.
Meanwhile, Sony’s Peter Rabbit had a better-than-expecting opening at $25 million, well above the $18 million-$23 million expected. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle brought in $10.1 million, bringing its cume to $365.9 million.
