ESPN: Cleveland Browns Want To Interview Condoleezza Rice For Head Coach

ESPN has cited an NFL source as saying the Cleveland Browns want to interview former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for the head coach's job, the report coming after Browns general manager John Dorsey said last week that he was open to hiring a woman as the team's next head coach. If it were to happen, Rice would become the first woman to interview for an NFL head-coaching position. But Dorsey is throwing some cold water on the report, saying in a statement: "Our coaching search will be thorough and deliberate, but we are still in the process of composing the list of candidates and Secretary Rice has not been discussed." Rice herself responded to the story, writing on Facebook yesterday (November 18th) that while she's not ready to coach, she, quote, "would like to call a play or two next season if the Browns need ideas." Rice is a lifelong Browns fan who attends some of their games, and was seen on the field with the team's owners before a game at the end of September. Rice, who was secretary of state under President George W. Bush, was one of the inaugural members of the College Football Playoff selection committee, and there has even been speculation that she could become the NFL commissioner. (ESPN)
