Critic Choice Awards

The 24 Annual Critics' Choice Awards handed out trophies to the year’s best in film and television on Sunday, with Taye Diggs hosting the party. Roma won big for film, landing Best Picture and Best Director, while The Americans snagged Best Drama and Best Actor.

On the film side, The Favourite led going in, with 14 nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association, followed by Black Panther with 12 and A Star Is Born, Mary Poppins Returns, and Vice, with nine each.

On the TV side, The Americans, Escape at Dannemora and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story all scored five nominations each.

There were two dramatic ties. Lady Gaga and Glenn Close tied for Best Actress, and Amy Adams and Patricia Arquette tied for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for TV.

Observers say the winners of the Critics’ Choice Awards often prove prescient for Oscar success: last year, they matched 17 of 19 categories. More than 350 members of the Broadcast Film Critics Association voted on prizes, as did members of the Broadcast Television Journalists Association. The show aired live on the CW from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.
