Jeopardy Clue Sparks Controversy

A clue on Friday's Jeopardy! about the location of a famous church in Bethlehem sparked online protests from viewers. Host Alex Trebek read the clue from the category "Where's that church?" that read: "Built in the 300s A.D., the Church of the Nativity." The first contestant to buzz in answered: "What is Palestine?" Trebek said "No," and then ruled another contestant correct when he buzzed in and said, "What is Israel?" The Church of the Nativity, where many Christians believe Jesus Christ was born, is located in Bethlehem, a city governed by the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank. However, Israel controls the Palestinian territories through military checkpoints and Israeli settlements there. Angry Palestinian supporters took to social media demanding an apology.
