Millions To Skip Work Monday

If you're considering calling out sick on Monday you're not the only one. A survey by the Workforce Institute at Kronos, Inc. finds 17.5 million employees will catch "Super Bowl fever" this year, the most people since they began tracking in 2005. It's estimated that 11.1 million workers plan to use pre-approved vacation time to stay home on the day after Super Bowl (Monday, February 3rd), and that 4.7 million will call out sick even though they're not ill. Even worse, 1.5 million employees say they expect to "ghost" their employer, or just not show up without telling anyone. 2020 is expected to be one of the biggest years for workplace absences, as 48 percent of those polled say they expect to miss work, call in late or even be distracted on the job due to major events and pop culture moments set to happen this year, including the U.S. presidential campaign and the Summer Olympics.
