A man charged with intoxication manslaughter in the death of a Beaumont police officer has
pleaded guilty. In August of 2020, 20-year old Luis Torres was driving the wrong way on
Cardinal Drive, near MLK, when he crashed into a Beaumont police unit killing Officer Sheena
Yarbrough-Powell. He faces up to 30 years. Torres will also plead guilty to injuring Officer
Gabriel Fells in the same wreck. He will be sentenced by Judge John Stevens on May 23rd.
