Maybe NYU and Cal Berkley (those bastions of higher education) should tell the students: “Hey, no school for a month. Vacation time. Sorry, we can’t teach any classes but we’re afraid someone might think we voted for Trump and our house is next. So tell your folks, although tuition is paid, there is no school. We’re going to Cancun and soak some sun. “ I am sure there would be protests galore but threats of jail do not seem to do much to prevent this crap so maybe if they close the schools the kids can go play in the streets. I wonder how many clear-thinking young people who cannot afford that kind of schooling would die for the chance to study and hear speakers whether they agreed with them or not? I wonder if many young Blacks, Hispanics and poor white families who put their kids to work at Burger King so they can maybe attend a junior college would leap at the possibility of a higher education? But that won’t happen. My friend Maury Myers went to NYU and played on the baseball team. He would be shocked and saddened.
