California now claims to have a driverless car (autonomous) that needs no driver. Period. Does that mean that a 14-year-old can say: “Dad, can I have the car tonight?” After all, no drivers license should be needed, because there is no driver so anyone can drive. Maybe the kid will park and smooch with his best girl and give his folks something else to worry about. Maybe the cars will leave the driveway by themselves (why not, they don’t need a driver) and can get in an accident. Whose fault? My daughter once took my car without permission. Neither I nor the robots knew. But she had to do the driving. And here I thought old people were the problems on our highways.
