She is the new Miss USA. Her name is Kara Mc Cullough. (sp). She is beautiful. She is Miss District of Columbia. She is the second D.C. winner in a row. She is 25. She is an accomplished chemist making a great salary and obviously a very intelligent person. At first I thought it a little haughty when she complained about having to tell her boss that she might be leaving while touring for a year. Then I got to thinking about what she said. She was concerned about her job. I know, I know. You say she shouldn’t have entered, but look beyond that. She was and is concerned about her FIRST career. Then she was asked as a final question as all contestants are what her thoughts on a particular issue. Her question was about health care. (Is it a right or a privilege?) She said she thought it a “privilege”. Well, comes now the firestorm of criticism. She said what she thought. But that’s no longer an excuse in America. You must have the right answer according to the “right” people. She is an African American so that makes it even worse. How could someone of that ilk say what she said? Maybe it’s what she believes. She works in the real world. She has a real job. A real career. But it’s not the RIGHT answer. Heavens to Betsy, shut that woman up. Bully, Kara. It is a privilege to have health care and to vote and to be an American. Maybe we have here a real Miss USA.
