Everyone and their brother has had a chance to drink from the well by now, so guess I’ll belly up to the bar on something I believe to be sacred. I love America. It’s flag, it’s history, it’s states, territories and possessions. I love free speech. I believe in this old raggedy land. I’ve traveled it as a musician, as well as a radio and even sometimes television man. I’ve talked to senators, and coaches and housewives and kids. I love the flag. We have one at both of our residences. I have traveled to Europe and Canada and Mexico and all points west. I am always glad to get home. When my wife and I couldn’t get back here after 9-11, our biggest fear was that life would end somewhere other than in the USA. I loved NFL football and used to watch all the games. I have seen the aura degenerate into a cesspool, ditto the NBA. Only baseball retains some of the sacredness of the game and its purpose. I still love the college game and still watch it. Playing the national anthem and standing with your hand on your heart? it’s a simple matter of what the majority wants. If players don’t like the anthem, stay in the tunnel till it’s over and if as a fan, you feel the same way, let’s quit playing it. Do not disparage it any further. It’s too wonderful a symbol of what this land was built on. Let the games proceed and with your kind indulgence, without me and the rest of the patriots.
